Characteristics of Sensors

Sensors:

Sensors are sophisticated devices that are frequently used to detect and respond to electrical or optical signals. A sensor converts the physical parameter (such as temperature, blood pressure, humidity, speed, etc) into a signal which can measured electrically.

Characteristics of Sensors:

1. Dynamic Range: Minimum and maximum values of the input signal for which the sensor responds. Sensor should respond to the stimuli almost instantaneously.

2. Sensitivity: The change in sensor output for a unit change in input.

3. Linearity: Whether the sensor maintains same sensitivity within the entire dynamic range.

4. Sensor should not disturb the physical quantity it measures.

5. Sensor should be suitable for the environment is is exposed.

6. It should be isolated from noises and protected from physical damages.

7. Size cost and ease of operation.
