Types of End Supports:
Though there are many types of supports for beams and frames, the following three types of supports are important from the subject point of view:
1. Simply Supported Beams:
It is a theoretical case, in which the end of a beam is simply supported over one of its support.
2. Roller-Supported Beams:
In such a case, the end of a beam is supported on rollers and the reactions on such an end are always normal to the support. All the steel trusses of the bridges have one of their ends supported on rollers.
3. Hinged Beams:
In such a case, the end of a beam is hinged to the support as shown in fig. The reaction on such an end may be horizontal, vertical, or inclined, depending upon the type of loading. All the steel trusses of the bridges have one of their end roller supported and the other hinge.
