Types of Strings and Loads in Engineering Mechanics

Types of Strings and Loads:

Though there are mainly three types of strings and loading’s.

    1. String carrying point loads

    2. String carrying uniformly distributed load

    3. String supported at different levels.

String carrying point loads:

Consider a string or cable suspended at two points A and B at the same level and carrying point loads W1 and W2 at C, D and E respectively. Let us assume that the weight of the string to be negligible as compared to the point loads and the cable to take the shape as shown in fig:

String carrying uniformly distributed load:

Consider a string or cable suspended at two points A and B at the same level and carrying a uniformly distributed load over the horizontal span of the cable.

String supported at different levels:

Consider a string or cable ACB, supported at different levels at A and B and carrying a uniformly distributed load.
