Principle of Ostwald Process

Ostwald Process:

Physico Chemical principles involved in the Industrial preparation of NH3 by Haber’s process, H2SO4 by contact process and HNO3 by Ostwald’s process.

Reversible Reaction:

Reactions in which the products can be converted back into reactions and vice-versa are known as reversible reactions. Such reactions proceed in forward as well as backward directions and a reversible reaction can be represented by between the reactants and the products.

N2 + 3H2 ⇌ 2NH3

Irreversible Reaction:

Reactions whose products can’t be converted back into reactants are known as irreversible reactions. Such reactions proceed only in one direction.

NaCl + AgNO3 ⇌ AgCl + NaNO3
