Inertia in Physics:
Inertia is the property of a body by virtue of which it opposes the cause which changes or tends to change the state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line of the body.
It is to be noted that the mass of a body is the measure of its inertia. The more the mass of a body, the more is its inertia.
Types of Inertia:
Thus, inertia can be classifed into two types –
- Inertia of rest
- Inertia of motion
Inertia of rest:
It is the property by virtue of which a body at rest tends to be in the state of rest.
Inertia of motion:
Inertia of motion is the property by virtue of which a body in motion tends to continue in motion with uniform speed along a straight line.
